What Type of Material Can You Sublimate On?
Fabrics
High-quality polyester is the best material for using a sublimation printer. For optimal results, choose 100% white or 65/35 cotton and polyester fabrics in cases where you don’t want an all-white backdrop like light pastel colors. This will make them vibrant without being overpowering to look at.
Polymers
There are a variety of materials you can sublimate onto, including polymers that have been specially coated for the purpose.
You’ll find plastic bookmarks and business cards as well as special MDF, which is made from paper-based products like notebooks or license plates.
Using Sawgrass
If you have a Sawgrass, then there’s no need to be limited by regular sublimation paper. Not only can heat transfer paper take advantage of all the features that are available with your printer- whether it is inserting special Heat Transfer Paper for cotton or dark colors!
Can You Sublimate on Wood?
Wood is used in so many different ways worldwide, but did you know that demand for wood sublimation products has increased recently? All it takes to get into this lucrative business are custom designs and blanks.
Sublimate them just like any other material using heat-transfer vinyl on paper rolls at home or printable graphics from digital files via computer printer onto fabric with an ironing board cover!
Can You Sublimate on Cotton?
No. sublimation will not work on cotton because it is a polyester-based product, so you can only get the slightly faded/vintage look when sublimating to 50/50 t-shirts, and 100% polyester works best for this type of material.
Still, some new transfer papers have been created specifically with cotton in mind, which allow one to print their graphic onto an item made from these materials without feeling like they’re wearing anything other than fabric (although there’s still no way around paying through the arm).
Novelty items such as T-shirts could be printed using special self-weeding paper, allowing comfort while supporting workouts.
Sublimation ink is a great way to print onto anything, but it works well for dark fabrics. So you’ll need an alternative solution that does not involve using white glitter vinyl to get your design on dark clothes like cotton t-shirts or even some of our darker-colored polyester shirts.

Can You Sublimate on Dollar Tree Mugs?
You may be thinking that this product only works on fabric, but you can sublimate print without any coating at all. But, of course, your paper should have instructions for time and temperatures to get the best results!

But there’s one catch: Most of these items aren’t suitable for sublimation printing, so make sure your receipt is kept in record to return items.
Can You Sublimate on Glass?
Normal glass can be sublimated, but it needs to have a white coating applied. Normal printers don’t print in white, so any graphics with whiteness will not show up on your final product, and if I remember correctly, most substrates already come pre-coated for this purpose!
Sublimating on glass is a challenging but rewarding job. However, you need to monitor your steps carefully, or you will end up with bad quality and broken pieces of the masterpiece!
